Margaret Asher Waldie, 88

Margaret Asher Waldie, 88, of Point Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV.

She was born January 20, 1935, in Wasioto, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Amis Asher and Edna (Creech) Asher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ben L. Somerville; sister, Barbara Ann Bowling and husband Don; and half-sister Jean Ward and husband Ray.

Margaret attended Pineville High School and Bell County High School, where she was a cheerleader at both schools prior to moving to Point Pleasant her senior year of high school and graduating with the Class of 1952.

She graduated from Bryant-Stratton Business College of Louisville, KY and returned to Point Pleasant to work.

Margaret worked for both C and P Telephone Company in Point Pleasant and Boso and Ritchie of Ravenswood prior to her marriage to Donald Waldie in 1955.

According to Margaret she then embarked on what she considered her most rewarding time of her life, that of being a mother and homemaker. She was involved in her church as head of the Nursery, Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. As her boys grew older she was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts, Certified Life Guard at the local country club pool, PTA member, Junior Women’s Club member and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

After her boys became teenagers she returned to work as a tax consultant for H & R Block for 25 years.

Margaret is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald E. Waldie of Point Pleasant; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew D. and Jann Waldie of Charleston, WV and Mark A. and Sally Waldie of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Blake Waldie of Reston, VA, Logan Waldie of Athens, OH, Nicole (Dave) Minor of Oregon, OH, Emily (Matt) Menzer of Los Angeles, CA, Tyler Waldie of Cincinnati, OH and Susan (Art Wolfe) Waldie of Duluth, MN; half-brother, Ben L. (Mary Ann) Somerville II of Tucson, AZ; and a half-sister, Beth (Ron) York of Cincinnati, OH.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ronnie Tote officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
