LB (Lewis Bert) Hensley, 85

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of the most loving husband, father, papaw, and great-papaw. LB (Lewis Bert) Hensley, 85, of Ewing, VA, passed away July 6, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born March 21, 1939 to Finley and Minnie (Trent) Hensley on Hensley Settlement, Brush Mountain, Cubbage, Kentucky. He was one of 13 children. They came off the mountain when he was about 5-6 years old.

He worked in logging and coal mining before moving to Michigan to work at GMC truck and Bus Pontiac, Michigan, where he retired after 31 years.

He enjoyed serving the Lord and was a member of Free Pentecostal Church of God. He loved his family and was big into genealogy. He had documented over 50,000 names, 10 generations, and was still working on it. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Arnold & Hazel (Wilder) Nelson, brothers: Charles, Robert and Bufford, sisters: Faye, Wilma Jean, Ella Mae (Polly), and Mildred, nephews: Emanuel and James Bufford Pittman and Scotty Koehler, niece: Miranda Proctor, brother-in- laws: Ray Smallman, Julian Lee, Orville and Freeman Nelson, Mark Daniels, JD Collins, JC Pittman, sisters-in-law: Laola Nelson, Anna Mae, Wanda and Asunta Hensley, Helen Lawson, June Nelson, and Elizabeth Collins.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years and 5 months, Annette (Nelson) Hensley, four children, Linda (Eric) Robinson of Kentucky, Mary (Jim) Culver of North Carolina , David (Brenda) Hensley of Michigan, and Jenny (Tom) Clegg of South Carolina, special nephew like a son, Rick Smallman, siblings: Conley Hensley, Wallace Hensley, Howard (Dorothy) Hensley, Don (Pauline) Hensley, and Louise (Billy Joe) Wilder, eleven grandchildren: Amber (Michael) Barber, Robert (Angela) Culver, Brian Wildey, Jimmy Hensley, Michael (Jenn) Brunelle, Michelle (Richard) Davis, Rebecca Culver, Kayla Brunelle, Rick Robinson, Katie Robinson and Brooke Brunelle, seven great grandchildren, three step granddaughters, and eight step-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 1:00p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Green Hills Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Daniels, Rev. Roger Hoskins and Mr. Marion Lawson presiding. Music will be provided by friends and family.

Graveside services will follow at the Trent Cemetery in Rose Hill, Virginia.

Pall bearers will be Rick Smallman, Eric Robinson, Robert Culver, Jimmy Hensley, Michael Brunelle, and Logan Keuhs. David Hensley will serve as an honorary pall bearer.
