Jean Porter, age 78, of Hebron, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024. Born on April 29, 1946, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Jean dedicated her life to serving others. She spent the majority of her career working as an interpreter in the Indiana School System. Her passion for communication and connection profoundly impacted the lives of many, bridging gaps and fostering understanding. A devoted mother and grandmother, Jean cherished her family above all else. She took immense joy in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always putting their needs first. Her selfless spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A faithful Christian, Jean lived out her faith through her kindness and compassion. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, embodying the true meaning of service. She is preceded in death by her parents; Joe and Lassie Johnston, her loving husband, Charles Porter, her brothers; Jerry Johnston, Eddie Johnston, O’Neil Johnston, and Bob Johnston, brother-in-law; Max Maxwell, her sister-in-laws; Addie Johnston and Betty Johnston, and brother-in-law Carver J. English Jr. Jean is survived by her loving children; Joe (Cindy) Porter, Lisa (Dave) Stolz, and Tami (Steve) Whitehead, her grandchildren; Jordan Kelley, Danielle (Kamron) Wagers, Jamie Gleason, Caleb Fidler, Hannah Gleason, Holly Gleason, step granddaughter Gabby (Josh) Shepperd, great-granddaughters; Hattie Wagers and step great-granddaughter Rebekah Shepperd who will carry on her legacy of love and generosity; her siblings Sherry Maxwell, Joyce (Don) Schaub, Jan Miller, Mack (Jane) Johnston, Bill (Margie) Johnston, Wayne (Glenda) Johnston, and Jawanna (Steve) Jackson; sister-in-law Virginia Johnston, along with a host of nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a profound impact on her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her career and beyond. A visitation for Jean will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington, Kentucky from 5-7pm. Burial will take place the following day at Dunn Cemetery in London, Kentucky at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Helen Keller Institute in New York, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, or The Ronald McDonald House.
