LEXINGTON, KY - In a tough night at Rupp Arena, the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats fell to No. 4 Alabama, 102-97. Despite a strong offensive performance, the Wildcats struggled to contain Alabama’s sharp shooting and late-game composure.
The Wildcats had seven players in double figures, with Otega Oweh leading the team with 21 points and six rebounds. Lamont Butler, despite a nagging shoulder injury, added 17 points and eight assists, showing grit in a physically demanding matchup. Amari Williams contributed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but Kentucky’s efforts were not enough to overcome Alabama’s balanced attack.
Defensive lapses and inconsistent execution in key moments cost Kentucky a chance to pull off another huge win. Alabama’s Grant Nelson was dominant with 25 points, and the Crimson Tide’s ability to respond to every Wildcats run ultimately decided the game.
Head coach Mark Pope acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, noting the need for better focus and defensive intensity moving forward. “We showed flashes of what we can do, but against a team like Alabama, you can’t afford to have breakdowns,” Pope said after the game.
A healthy Bell County requires great community news.
